Join young actor Sam Gittins (Await Further Instructions, Ray & Liz) for n in-depth conversation with a different entertainment industry insider every week. Upcoming guests include directors, producers, actors, make-up artists, casting agents and critics - and they will all be sharing advice, stories and tips on how to survive life on set and off it in the worlds of TV, film and theatre.
MISSION
An enormous amount of what goes into making films and TV takes place behind-the-scenes – Up & Coming will bring listeners stories from the people we don’t often get to hear from, yet whose hard work and skill bring scripts to life.
We want to support those working in, and aspiring to work in, the entertainment industry; Up & Coming aims not only to inspire but also to provide practical, real-world advice on things like auditioning, funding new projects, working on a set (in myriad different roles) and even the challenges of working two jobs when you’re just starting out.
Up & Coming will also highlight the challenges that face everyone working in this business – many of which are things that aren’t really discussed. Be it the financial instability that comes with intermittent acting work, the prevalence of unpaid gigs for aspiring professionals and the often-cut-throat nature of the industry and its effect on young creatives.
HOST
Sam Gittins is an actor best known for his work on television (The Smoke, Call the Midwife, Mr Selfridge, Ripper Street) and has appeared in features such as ‘Obey’ by Jamie Jones and ‘Ray and Liz’ by Richard Billingham which were met with acclaim by BAFTA and Tribeca.
As well as acting Sam is an accomplished championship boxer and has previously had all sorts of in-between-acting jobs – he has worked on building sites, lighting crews, running jobs and now occasionally works in sales and marketing. This CV will likely be familiar to many starting out in the acting!
